Build A Bug Collection
If you're fascinated by the different and unique shapes, sizes and colors of the insect kingdom, starting a bug collection is for you. We’ll explore the various ways to find insects, capture them, organize our collection, display them and label our collection.

Orienteering Program
Join us at the PMEC to participate in our fall orienteering challenge! The days will be spent crisscrossing the woods in competition with yourself and others! Open to anyone of any ability with a desire to be in the woods with a compass and map to guide them as they test their savvy. For the slightly less daring a short tutorial will be held upon request to demonstrate the basics of orienteering i.e. the skills necessary to complete the course. This event has always been a blast and with our new courses its sure to be even better! The second session will have a more challenging course.

Salamander Hunt
Joint our naturalist as we hunt for salamanders on the grounds around the Peabody Mill Environmental Center. Perhaps we will find the elusive blue spotted salamander on our hunt.

Tot’s “Growing Up Wild”
Calling all caregivers and toddlers (3–4 yr. olds)! Come explore our diverse natural environment in this program designed to engage young minds. Your connection with nature may be as simple as sitting under a tree, or planting a bean seed. Stories, healthy snacks, music and movement will be a part of your child's’ experience.

Bring a water bottle, wear appropriate footwear and clothes for the weather that your child can hike in.

Winter Survival - Build A Temporary Survival Shelter
Unexpected things can happen - lost hunters, downed aircraft, hikers caught out at night during the winter. Perhaps someone has been injured and you are faced with going for help, leaving them alone in subfreezing weather with little chance of survival in the open. Come explore winter survival options and learn to build a temporary shelter. Make this a family adventure!

Under the Moon Hikes
Let us help you around the night sky. Join us for stories and a walk in the woods along easy paths that accommodate people of all ages. Bring a flashlight to help you navigate uneven terrain.

Full Moon Hikes (FMH)Join us for monthly moon lore and discover how well you can actually see during a full moon.

Stargazer Strolls (SS)- Join us during the “new” moon to learn some basic astronomy and discover which constellations you can identify.

Joe English Discovery Hike
Come with fellow hikers and explore the trails adjacent to Peabody Mill Environmental Center. Our naturalist will lead this hike explaining the history of the Joe English Reservation, discuss our native wildlife and which plants and trees are native to this forest. Comfortable walking shoes a must.

Wilderness Survival
A program designed to teach you the basics of wilderness survival with a study in camp fire building, water sources & purification, wild food sources, structure building, first aid, hiking and navigation. Whether you want to learn these outdoor skills to learn survival or to simply bring yourself closer to nature we hope these tips and techniques will help you along the way. This is an excellent opportunity to expose the younger members in your family to an outdoor experience that could help to save them should they become lost in the woods.
