Softball

Come join a growing group of girls ages 5-16 on the softball diamond for a game of softball. Whether you want the experience of an instructional league or are ready for some fun and competition there is a spot for you on one of our many teams. All instructional, minor/major and juniors teams will play teams from surrounding towns.

Practices and games will begin the first of April weather permitting. Uniform shirts will be provided. All Minor/Major players will be screened and the screening information will be used to build teams. All Minor/Major players must be registered with the Recreation Department to participate in the screening.

Be sure to register early to assure you will be placed on a team. Space is limited and anyone registering after the registration closing date (03/08/2013) will pay a late fee of $25.00 and be placed on a waiting list. All of the Clinics, Screenings & Teams are supported solely by volunteer coaches. Please consider volunteering your time and make a note of your desired position when you register your child.

The screening for the Minor/Major League players is Saturday, March 23. Each player will be assessed in each area and then they will be free to leave. The total screening time for each player could be as short 10-15 minutes.

Softball-Spring
  • General Information
  • Softball age is based on participant’s age on December 31, 2012.
  • Registration ends 3/8/2013
  • Registered 9-12 year olds will be screened prior to placement on a Minor or Major team.
  • A 9 year old player new to the game of softball may request to play the season in the instructional league.
  • Screening results will be used to build all teams as equitably as possible
  • Special requests for specific coaches, teammates, carpooling needs and practice days will be considered when possible, however we are unable to make any guarantees.
  • Practice will begin as soon as teams are established and weather permits.
  • Instructional, Minor/Major and Juniors teams will play their home games at the Amherst Middle School and away games at fields in surrounding communities.
  • Parents who are interested in coaching are encouraged to note that on their childs registration
  • Background checks will be completed for all coaches

  • The screening for the Minor/Major League players will be Saturday March 23 from 9:30-11:00am at the Amherst Middle School.

  • Girls Ages 5 & 6
  • Introduction to Softball
  • No uniform pants required
  • 6 Week Program: Beginning the Week of May 6-June 10
  • Instructional
  • For ages 7-8
  • Fundamentals of softball reinforced
  • Games played with surrounding towns (1 or 2 weekly games)
  • No uniform pants required.
  • Minors/Majors
  • For ages 9, 10, 11 & 12
  • Placement on a Minor or Major Team determined by skills assessment at screening
  • Games played with surrounding towns (1 or 2 weekly games)
  • Uniform pants required.
  • Juniors
  • For ages 16 and under
  • 2 games per week
  • Play games with Milford, Wilton, Hollis, Brookline & Bedford
  • Playoffs are single elimination
  • Uniform pants or shorts required.
  • Girls participating on the Amherst Middle School team are eligible to play in our recreation league even though the seasons may overlap a bit.
