Horses 101: An Introduction to Horsemandship

This non-riding program is a unique opportunity for students interested in learning to handle and care for horses, and perhaps pursue a career in Barn Management.

Participants in this course will learn what is involved in caring for a horse, including equine anatomy, healthcare and nutrition, horsecare and management, and the identification, use of and care for tack.

Students will wear provided safety helmets when needed and will have hands-on supervision the entire time they are on the property. The instructior for this program is Barn Manager and Director of Operations, Ashely Brown.

Ashley has been an equine enthusiast her whole life. She started out riding at summer camps during family vacations and her passion grew. Ashley has had numerous instructors, who have supplied her with a wealth of knowledge. She generates new exercises to challenge the rider and horse, has a pleasant personality in the arena, organizes summer riding camps, pony parties, manages the lesson program and barn. As a barn manager she comprehends the importance of horsemanship. "It is not just about riding" here at WALNUT HOLLOW FARM.

Class will run once a week for 4 consectutive weeks from 4-5:30pm.

Who: 5th- 8th graders
When: Mondays 4:00-5:30pm 9/29-10/20
Where: Walnut Hollow Farm, 40 Walnut Hill Road

This program has a minimum of 5 students and a maximum of 10.
