Masked Theater

This program is currently unavailable. Click here to view all of our current programs.

Masks have played an important role in theater throughout history, in a variety of cultures. Their dramatic impact is striking and challenges the performer to embody a character beyond words and facial expressions. This can provide a safety net of exploration for the novice or timid performer or stretch the ability of the seasoned actor. In this class the students will learn about various styles of masked theater and character masks, design and create their own characters and masks, and explore movement and performance technique required for masked performance.

*Students will be required to wear masks in class. For the older class, please let the instructor know if your child has any allergies to latex or Vaseline, as they will be making their masks from plaster strips. Some accommodations can be made.
