Couch to 5K - Better than Before -running program

With people starting to hunker down because of the coronavirus pandemic it’s even more important to keep moving! There is a prediction that the average person will gain 15 pounds over the coming months!

“When you’re stuck at home it’s easy to get lazy and fall into an unhealthy routine,” says Matt Williams, a NASM-certified personal trainer from Los Angeles. “Doing a workout or even just going for a brisk walk can dramatically improve your physical health and overall mental well-being. It can also help reduce anxiety during these times of uncertainty.”

How are you going to avoid the “Quarantine 15”? Don’t worry, Amherst Rec can help!

Join the Amherst Recreation Dept as we guide you through a virtual Couch to 5K program. To get started download the Couch to 5K schedule below, or download the C25K app.

We have created a Facebook open community group for all to share tips, inspiration, and our accomplishments. If you’d like to be added to the group just register on our site.

The program is free!!

Together we can stop the “Quarantine 15”, and get ready for the Two Town Triathlon happening in August!

More about your coach
My name is Amy Hull and I have been a resident of Amherst NH for almost 20 years, and I’ve had a love/hate relationship with running for even longer. Whether I was struggling through injury or illness, keeping active by either running or walking has kept me both mentally and physically strong.

As an Amherst Rec Dept instructor I have lead many groups through the Couch to 5K program, and I very much believe in it. The main reason I think it works as a group is the comradery it gives people. The C25K program is easy to follow, and allows one to gradually ramp up the duration of running without over doing it.

I am very excited to lead the Couch to 5K program at this very difficult time in our lives. Whether you’re interested in participating because you want to run a 5K or just want to be active, and feel connected to a group I’m thrilled you’ll be joining us. As a community it’s important to stay connected… and together we can keep one another strong, and hopefully by supporting each other we will be better than before!
