The Stearns-Davis Community Garden was established at Joshua's Park, 31 Courthouse Road, to maintain the traditional agricultural use and history of the Amherst Village. The Amherst land Trust organized the design and installation of the infrastructure, including a permanent deer-proof fence and an automatic irrigation system. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. Each gardener is free to select their favorite vegetable varieties and lay out their plot accordingly. produce may not be sold on-site, but gardeners may elect to share surplus with friends, neighbors and charities. There are a total of 40 plots.Updates for 2024 - The Garden will have a couple of upgrades before the 2024 growing season.  -Fall of 2023 - The state toxicologist revealed there is very little trace of PFOA's & PFAS in the samples of grown vegetables taken in the fall of 2022.  -2023 - New filter installed on well pump to filter out all PFOA and PFAS.-2024 - Metal mesh fence to surround the bottom of the garden fence to help keep rabbits out.  -2024 - No price increase for 2024 gardening season.  Schedule for 2024:January 2-January 31         Gardeners that had a plot in 2022 and are in good standing are eligible to register for one 10'x20'plot. Registration must be done online with the code or on the phone with Amherst Parks and Recreation. February 1-29Beginning Feb 1, Amherst residents gardening at Stearns-Davis Community Garden for the first time may register for a single plot with Amherst Parks and Recreation in person, on the phone or online on this page. These plots are first come, first served and fill VERY QUICKLY! Northern Lights Amherst Cheer - Spring 2024 - Registration Opens Jan 1, 2024All Star Cheer is a high energy, team-based, performance sport that is athletic, artistic and acrobatic. It involves athletes competing with a 2 and a 1/2 minute routine composed of tumbling, stunting, pyramids, dance and cheer segments.All Star Cheer differs from traditional cheer teams in that its primary purpose is competition, as opposed to crowd leading at football or basketball teams.  This will be NL Amherst’s 5th season!  The program is for elementary and middle school athletes of any ability level!  NL cheerleaders do not cheer at football or basketball games, instead focusing on 2-3 local competitions/performances.  NL coaches and choreographers are trained in safety, technique and skill building.  We are competitive but our program focuses first and foremost on fun and team building.  Who: Grades K - 8th grade (teams will be split by age/grade) When: Thursday'sMiddle School Team 3:45 - 5:30 March 7th - May 9thElementary School Team 5:30 - 7:00 Jan 11th - May 9th** Competition: - April 14 (This date is absolutely mandatory)We will also participate in two showcases (dates TBD) Where: AMS Cafe Fee: $250R, $280NR (uniform fee not included)Equipment Needed: cheer shoes & uniformMax: 25 per team

It involves athletes competing with a 2 and a 1/2 minute routine composed of tumbling, stunting, pyramids, dance and cheer segments.All Star Cheer differs from traditional cheer teams in that its primary purpose is competition, as opposed to crowd leading at football or basketball teams.  This will be NL Amherst’s 5th season!  The program is for elementary and middle school athletes of any ability level!  NL cheerleaders do not cheer at football or basketball games, instead focusing on 2-3 local competitions/performances.  NL coaches and choreographers are trained in safety, technique and skill building.  We are competitive but our program focuses first and foremost on fun and team building.  Who: Grades K - 8th grade (teams will be split by age/grade) When: Thursday'sMiddle School Team 3:45 - 5:30 March 7th - May 9thElementary School Team 5:30 - 7:00 Jan 11th - May 9th** Competition: - April 14 (This date is absolutely mandatory)We will also participate in two showcases (dates TBD) Where: AMS Cafe Fee: $250R, $280NR (uniform fee not included)Equipment Needed: cheer shoes & uniformMax: 25 per team

Come join the creative arts studio for kids in grades 1-4! Holly Majkut and Jessica Anderson are excited to collaborate and join forces to offer the Afterschool Arts program! Allow your child to discover or nurture their inner artist through exploring a variety of art materials. Art studio time will allow your child to create their own masterpieces. Specific art mediums will be introduced each monthly session to allow the artist exposure and increased experience. (Schedule below). Sample ideas and directives will be available to assist with sparking creativity and imagination. Crafting and drawing supplies will also be available each class. This is not a formal art instruction class. The art studio concept focuses on creating and exploring art materials, having fun, and socializing. First, our Right Brain Curriculum instructors will review the history of what we are about to build: How airports graduated from landing strips to vast travel networks, how Depression-era farms survived hordes of grasshoppers, how aeroelasticity explains why the Tacoma bridge nicknamed “Galloping Gertie” collapsed. Then, it’s time to build! You will create a model of each type of structure out of an enormous assortment of provided Legos, then present your creation as we photograph and document it. We continue to offer After-School Classes with Robert Allwarden for children grades 2-4, and have evening classes for adults! After-School Ukulele for Grades 2-4Has your child wanted to learn an instrument, but you aren't sure you are ready to commit to the expense? Has the Ukulele craze caught their interest? Are you ready to see them spend time with something that does not have a glass screen??Classes are set up with a 5 week session. This class is for novice and continuing students, so students can "begin where they are". Robert has a great deal of experience identifying students' abilities and developing their skills to the next level.Students will work on chords and simple songs to play and sing. No prior knowledge is needed.  All instructional materials will be provided, including ukuleles during instruction. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. Each gardener is free to select their favorite vegetable varieties and lay out their plot accordingly. produce may not be sold on-site, but gardeners may elect to share surplus with friends, neighbors and charities. Come join the creative arts studio for kids in grades 1-4! Holly Majkut and Jessica Anderson are excited to collaborate and join forces to offer the Afterschool Arts program! Allow your child to discover or nurture their inner artist through exploring a variety of art materials. Art studio time will allow your child to create their own masterpieces. Specific art mediums will be introduced each monthly session to allow the artist exposure and increased experience. (Schedule below). Sample ideas and directives will be available to assist with sparking creativity and imagination. Crafting and drawing supplies will also be available each class. This is not a formal art instruction class. The art studio concept focuses on creating and exploring art materials, having fun, and socializing. Baboosic Lake Rowing Club is offering a 4 session Learn To Row program for 7th-9th graders. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of rowing and will use rowing machines (ergs) to learn proper form and technique. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. Each gardener is free to select their favorite vegetable varieties and lay out their plot accordingly. produce may not be sold on-site, but gardeners may elect to share surplus with friends, neighbors and charities. Baboosic Lake Rowing Club is offering a 4 session Learn To Row program for 7th-9th graders. Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of rowing and will use rowing machines (ergs) to learn proper form and technique. We are so fortunate to have a growing Ukulele Program! We continue to offer After-School Classes with Robert Allwarden for children grades 2-4, and have evening classes for adults! After-School Ukulele for Grades 2-4Has your child wanted to learn an instrument, but you aren't sure you are ready to commit to the expense? Has the Ukulele craze caught their interest? Are you ready to see them spend time with something that does not have a glass screen??Classes are set up with a 5 week session. This class is for novice and continuing students, so students can "begin where they are". Robert has a great deal of experience identifying students' abilities and developing their skills to the next level.Students will work on chords and simple songs to play and sing. No prior knowledge is needed.  All instructional materials will be provided, including ukuleles during instruction. The Stearns-Davis Community Garden was established at Joshua's Park, 31 Courthouse Road, to maintain the traditional agricultural use and history of the Amherst Village. The Amherst land Trust organized the design and installation of the infrastructure, including a permanent deer-proof fence and an automatic irrigation system. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. Each gardener is free to select their favorite vegetable varieties and lay out their plot accordingly. produce may not be sold on-site, but gardeners may elect to share surplus with friends, neighbors and charities. There are a total of 40 plots.Updates for 2024 - The Garden will have a couple of upgrades before the 2024 growing season.  -Fall of 2023 - The state toxicologist revealed there is very little trace of PFOA's & PFAS in the samples of grown vegetables taken in the fall of 2022.  -2023 - New filter installed on well pump to filter out all PFOA and PFAS.-2024 - Metal mesh fence to surround the bottom of the garden fence to help keep rabbits out.  -2024 - No price increase for 2024 gardening season.  Schedule for 2024:January 2-January 31         Gardeners that had a plot in 2022 and are in good standing are eligible to register for one 10'x20'plot. Registration must be done online with the code or on the phone with Amherst Parks and Recreation. February 1-29Beginning Feb 1, Amherst residents gardening at Stearns-Davis Community Garden for the first time may register for a single plot with Amherst Parks and Recreation in person, on the phone or online on this page. Come join the creative arts studio for kids in grades 1-4! Holly Majkut and Jessica Anderson are excited to collaborate and join forces to offer the Afterschool Arts program! Allow your child to discover or nurture their inner artist through exploring a variety of art materials. Art studio time will allow your child to create their own masterpieces. Specific art mediums will be introduced each monthly session to allow the artist exposure and increased experience. (Schedule below). Sample ideas and directives will be available to assist with sparking creativity and imagination. Crafting and drawing supplies will also be available each class. This is not a formal art instruction class. The art studio concept focuses on creating and exploring art materials, having fun, and socializing. Come join us and enjoy an afternoon of fun and exploring at Peabody Mill Environmental Center.  We will explore the amazing hiking trails, play games and make crafts.  On early release Wednesdays we will pick up the explorers from Wilkins and bring them to PMEC for an afternoon of fun in nature! WHO: Grades 1-4 WHEN: Early Release Wednesdays WHERE: Peabody Mill Environmental Center, 66 Brook Road, Amherst FEE: $35R, $40NR (monthly) or $100R, $120NR (3 month bundle) **Transportation will be provided from Wilkins Elementary to PMEC.  Remember to register through the Wilkins Website PUP patrol.** Sample Schedule: 11:30 AM - Pick Up at Wilkins 12:00 PM - Arrive at PMEC 12:00PM- 12:15PM - Snack and bathroom break.12:15PM to 1:15PM -  Head out onto the trails for a fun weekly activity, exploring habitats, fort building, learning about animals at PMEC. 1:15 PM - Head back to PMEC 1:15PM-2:15PM-  Options of Lego challenges, Gaga Ball, nature crafts, quiet homework time 2:30PM - Pick UpPlease pick up on time. Come join us and enjoy an afternoon of fun and exploring at Peabody Mill Environmental Center.  We will explore the amazing hiking trails, play games and make crafts.  On early release Wednesdays we will pick up the explorers from Wilkins and bring them to PMEC for an afternoon of fun in nature! WHO: Grades 1-4 WHEN: Early Release Wednesdays WHERE: Peabody Mill Environmental Center, 66 Brook Road, Amherst FEE: $35R, $40NR (monthly) or $100R, $120NR (3 month bundle) **Transportation will be provided from Wilkins Elementary to PMEC.  Remember to register through the Wilkins Website PUP patrol.** Sample Schedule: 11:30 AM - Pick Up at Wilkins 12:00 PM - Arrive at PMEC 12:00PM- 12:15PM - Snack and bathroom break.12:15PM to 1:15PM -  Head out onto the trails for a fun weekly activity, exploring habitats, fort building, learning about animals at PMEC. 1:15 PM - Head back to PMEC 1:15PM-2:15PM-  Options of Lego challenges, Gaga Ball, nature crafts, quiet homework time 2:30PM - Pick UpPlease pick up on time. Adult basketball is an opportunity for adults to play games in an open gym setting. Each session, teams will be formed from the players in attendance and bringing a dark and light shirt is recommended. This program is limited to 25 registrations and registration is required prior to attendance. Registration opens January 1st.  Amherst Recreation Department will have 10 boat slips available for the 2024 season.  The season starts on May 1, 2024 and goes until October 31, 2024.  Boat Storage is for Amherst Residents Only.  Each boat will be given a specific rack spot.  Each boat will have a sticker and number that associates the boat to that rack spot.  The Sticker must be visible while being stored on the rack.  Only 1 boat per rack spot.

The Stearns-Davis Community Garden was established at Joshua's Park, 31 Courthouse Road, to maintain the traditional agricultural use and history of the Amherst Village. The Amherst land Trust organized the design and installation of the infrastructure, including a permanent deer-proof fence and an automatic irrigation system. The garden is allocated by Amherst Recreation and is managed by the Stearns-Davis Community Garden Committee (SDCGC) and the Amherst Recreation Department.Garden plots will be allotted on a first come, first served basis with a nominal fee to cover maintenance and utilities. Each gardener is free to select their favorite vegetable varieties and lay out their plot accordingly. produce may not be sold on-site, but gardeners may elect to share surplus with friends, neighbors and charities. There are a total of 40 plots.Updates for 2024 - The Garden will have a couple of upgrades before the 2024 growing season.  -Fall of 2023 - The state toxicologist revealed there is very little trace of PFOA's & PFAS in the samples of grown vegetables taken in the fall of 2022.  -2023 - New filter installed on well pump to filter out all PFOA and PFAS.-2024 - Metal mesh fence to surround the bottom of the garden fence to help keep rabbits out.  -2024 - No price increase for 2024 gardening season.  Schedule for 2024:January 2-January 31         Gardeners that had a plot in 2022 and are in good standing are eligible to register for one 10'x20'plot. We are so fortunate to have a growing Ukulele Program! We continue to offer After-School Classes with Robert Allwarden for children grades 2-4, and have evening classes for adults! After-School Ukulele for Grades 2-4Has your child wanted to learn an instrument, but you aren't sure you are ready to commit to the expense? Has the Ukulele craze caught their interest? Are you ready to see them spend time with something that does not have a glass screen??Classes are set up with a 5 week session. This class is for novice and continuing students, so students can "begin where they are". Robert has a great deal of experience identifying students' abilities and developing their skills to the next level.Students will work on chords and simple songs to play and sing. No prior knowledge is needed.  All instructional materials will be provided, including ukuleles during instruction. If the students want to practice at home, they will need their own ukulele.  Who: 2nd-4th Graders Where: After school at Wilkins Elementary, #13 the Music RoomWhen: Thursday's, 2:45-3:45pm - Next Session Starting 5/2!Why: Because the Ukulele is Cool, Portable, Relatively Inexpensive, and FUN!Fee:$75R, $90NR We need a minimum of 5 students, with a maximum of 15*Thank you for respecting the 2nd grade cut off- we look forward to having your 1st grader join the program next year!Ukulele for Adults!Participants will learn the basic chords and receive sheet music with simple songs to begin playing. All materials will be provided, including ukuleles.
